Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Interventional Pulmonology & Critical Care
The Department of Respiratory Medicine is a fully equipped unit run by experienced faculty.
At present the department functions with 6 faculty members and 2 senior residents. Dr C. Mohan Rao, ex-HOD, Post Graduate Department of Respiratory Medicine, IGH, Rourkela ex- Associate Professor, Hi-Tec Medical College and Hospital, Rourkela heads the unit.
Facilities available for the patients :
Other than the basic OPD and in-patient services that are available all days a week, the department has been providing specialised services including bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy since the last 5 years.
Spirometry is also performed in the department by trained staff.
There also exists a designated microscopy centre (DMC) in the OPD lounge of the department that provides facilities like sputum microscopy, initiation of TB treatment and referral services.
Courses :
There are 3 seats for MD Respiratory Medicine, candidates for which are selected through NEET-PG exams based on their ranking.

Research and Activities :
1. All faculties have immense interest in research in the field of respiratory medicine and have published multiple papers in national and international journals.
2. The faculty also appear in TV programmes on public health issues and awareness. They also contribute interesting cases and abstracts in KIMS Journal.
3. Three papers have already been presented by post graduate students in the Annual Congress of the European Respiratory Society.
The post graduates also received the 1st and 2nd prizes at CHESTCON, 2018 and 2019.
