Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is headed by Gold Medallist Dr Sarat Chandra Panigrahi (MD, DM, DNB) under the able guidance of Padma Shree Professor Subrat Kumar Acharya, Pro-chancellor of KIIT University (Retired Head, Department of Gastroenterology, AIIMS, New Delhi) and Padma Shree Professor Yogesh Kumar Chawla, Chairman of Academics, KIMS (Retired Director and Head of Hepatology, PGIMER, Chandigarh). The mission of the department is to provide comprehensive high end clinical and ethical care as well as emergency services for patients suffering from disorders of digestive tract and liver through a team of highly experienced Gastroenterologists supported by state of art technology. It provides routine OPD as well as round the clock emergency services for all disorders of digestive system, liver and pancreato-biliary system including both basic and advanced endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Services available:

  1. Diagnostic endoscopy & colonoscopy
  2. Very thin endoscope (paediatric endoscopy) for small children
  3. Therapeutic endoscopy like sclerotherapy, variceal banding, coagulation, hemoclip application to stop ongoing Gl bleeding
  4. Dilatation (widening) of narrowed food passage
  5. Removal of small tumour by endoscope without surgery (polypectomy)
  6. Liver biopsy
  7. Fibroscan [for noninvasive (painless) assessment of liver fibrosis]
  8. Breath tests for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and H pylori infection
  9. Enteroscopy (endoscopy of small intestine) to find out the cause of unexplained anemia, obscure GI bleeding, diarrhoea
  10. Pneumatic balloon dilatation of Achalasia Cardia
  11. Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG)
  12. ERCP with removal of bile duct stone, dilatation & plastic stent placement for benign biliary stricture and pancreatic duct stenting and stone removal (for pancreatitis)
  13. Metallic biliary, esophageal, pyloric, enteral & colonic stenting
  14. Endoscopic cystogastrostomy (for pancreatic pseudocyst) & endoscopic necrosectomy (for walled of pancreatic necrosis (WOPN)
  15. Capsule endoscopy
  16. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
